Meet the Team

  • Sarah Davidson

    PRESIDENT

    Sarah's engagements have included attachments with conferences and clinical work as part of the Basingstoke Hoima Partnership for Health, management and service for surgical camps and work with the charity Freedom from fistula in Sierra Leone and Malawi, working on obstetric fistula and emergency maternal surgery. Dr Davidson was founding vice president and then president of the Global Anaesthetic Surgical and Obstetric Collaboration (GASOC). As a fellow for the Global Surgery Group Dr Davidson is regular faculty for the Oxford University Global Surgery Group September course and the co-lead for the student SST.

  • Mariam Karimi

    SECRETARY

    As the treasurer for World Anaesthesia, Mariam controls the purse strings and helps to ensure that your membership fees go towards supporting the work of the society, funding travel costs and bursaries for anaesthetists working within world anaesthesia. Mariam was one of the Lifebox Fellows, spending six months in Tanzania in 2016 working clinically and on quality improvement projects focussed on safe anaesthesia and surgery. She is an East of England trainee and currently doing an advanced paediatrics fellowship at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

  • Anna Janowicz

    Events & Education Secretary

    Anna is a Consultant Anaesthetist at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals. Anna has worked in Lusaka for six months as a ZADP fellow. She has taught on SAFE courses in Zambia, Nepal and India. She is currently involved in the Ethiopia Anaesthetic Development Program and is a remote educational supervisor with the RCoA. She recently completed MSc in Global Health with Health Professions Education at King's College London.

  • Emma Lillie

    International Relations Committee Liaison

    Emma is a paediatric anaesthetist at the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in Brighton. She has spent many years working in under-resourced hospitals in Zambia, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa and Vietnam. She is co-director of the partnership between the Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland (AAGBI) and University Teaching Hospital in Zambia called the Zambian Anaesthesia Development Project (ZADP), educating Zambian and UK anaesthetic trainees in clinical and non-clinical skills.

  • Claudia Gardiner

    Liaisons Officer

    Claudia is currently an ACCS trainee in anaesthetics at Warwick Hospital who has an interest in global health. After completing her foundation year training, she spent a year doing the Specialist Hereford Anaesthetic Remote and Pre-hospital (SHARP) clinical fellowship in the global stream at Hereford County Hospital.

  • Janis Fern

    Janis is a Consultant Anaesthetist at University College London Hospitals, with an interest in obstetric and paediatric anaesthesia and medical education. She completed the Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene in Liverpool and a tropical medicine in practice course in Blantyre, Malawi prior to starting anaesthesia. She has spent time in Ethiopia, Tanzania and Zambia, contributing to the training and education of anaesthetic officers and physician anaesthetists.
